Unconstitutional Irrepublic

This republic day it was. 74 grand years of Independence. 71 glorious years of our Constitution.
Happy birthday the Constitution of India! You laid base for an egalitarian India: we built our nation with bricks of discrimination of (so-called) lower caste creatures, cement of sexism, misogyny and patriarchy and painted it with a bright saffron of Hindutva. You sowed seeds of a democratic India, we reaped crops of a dictatorial regime. You lit the candle of justice and fraternity, we melted in the wax of just the opposite audience.

You provided us with rights: was it worth? We are shunned before we speak, we are curbed before we even learn to fly; our senses are mutilated before we know what is education; our honor and modesty is torn apart before we can scream, “No!” You trusted us with duties: was it worth? We’ve forgotten our basic morality and humanism: how often do we ‘abjure violence’ stated clearly? Domestic violence, riots, crimes, is the answer.
How often do we work for the environment or at least show compassion towards living creatures? India’s ranking in pollution and deteriorating forest cover, with animals on the hazard, is the answer.
How often do we dignify women?
How often do we transcend religious, linguistic or regional diversities for that brotherhood?
How often do we uphold the unity and integrity of India?

We know the answer.

So here’s to another year of celebrating Constitution in this unconstitutional nation. Jai Hind!
