The Contemporary Tale

I looked out of the window: French and glass and all,

Gazing at the ombre hued sky, sun waving goodbyes

To mankind: night was taking over;

Enveloping everything under the expedient blanket

Of the dark.

“It’s good. Beneficial.” I remarked. “After all, nocturnal

Undertakings are accomplished in the dark. It’s nothing

But for the noble cause.”

The society, today, is not nocturnal

But shadowy. Murky.

“Ah, no!” I cried. “I’ll let you ponder. Do not

Jump to suppositions! For I’m going to tell you

The story of the contemporary sphere, not far

From the archaic realm.”

To start with quackery (‘quack’ being the state-of-the-art occupation)

There lived a duck, Donald by the name;

Loved quacking. Healer, was he;

To heal the States, wanted to buy

A land so green ( or green land was it called?);

Don’t the people deserve zinc in diet?

Healer, a quack as was, adored

The climate: “Fake science”, he called it.

True, is the sense: our polar ice caps are frozen,

Poor them! Need such warmth to liberate the land, of ice;

So what if the ozone gets depleted? Petty thing!

So what if we lose the forests? Meagre issue!

We just need liberation.

Ducky had a friend, fast and rash,

Kim was the name (no! Not the Kardashian!)

Such a young ‘n fine ‘missile man’,

Had a firecracker button, just a bit

Of the nuclear kind.

So hat if it leads to destruction and wreaks havoc?

Humankind will evaporate; but so will it assist

The nuclears! How tired we already are of this life!

So what if his countrymen are wretched, so what if

He has absolute power? isn’t absoluteness extended

Towards the things we endear!

They had a third: Mo(o)dy (with an ‘i’?) as he was,

Had a thing for onions: didn’t want to part, thus hiked

It all;

Once camped with Bear (‘Grylled’ is his realm?) and

Loved flying, but

Hated migratory birds (of a specific ‘breed’).

Economy was his weakness,

But ‘good days’ are yet to come (?)

So what if the reign is burning? At least it provides ‘heat’

In this cold!

So what if there’s dissent? A happy family always

Quarrels out of love!

“Thus you see, how progressive this sphere is!

Love and equality prevail;

Don’t be too judgmental too fast,

For soon, it’s all ending :

We and the Earth, I meant.”
